Mud Dragon Puppet Pattern
This dragon puppet design was inspired by Mudwings from the popular book series, Wings of Fire. I love how friendly Clay is and I wanted to capture that in a puppet design. This pattern comes as a 12-page PDF file that you will print out at home. I have written thorough instructions with pictures to help any beginner have a successful build. I also have an accompanying video to clarify things even further.
I made a tutorial about how to make patterns here: I’m always amazed at what people have built with this pattern, and I’m excited to see what you’ll create with it! https://youtu.be/rKpQ97EvmZk
Please note that you can sell finished products made with this base pattern, just add a credit to me and where you got the pattern! However, please do not sell unfinished bases, or resell or distribute the pattern itself.
Finished size: the finished puppet is about 18 inches long, 13 inches wide, and 9 inches tall at the widest points and including the horns. See photos for details.
Materials:
EVA foam -I recommend 6mm foam for the puppet head and horns, and 2mm foam for the ears. 4mm can be used to make the horns easier to form. I like getting mine from The Cosplay Pros supply or Sks Props.
Printer and 8.5” x 11” paper
Scissors – To cut the pattern after printing.
Ball point pen or Sharpie marker – To trace pattern on foam.
Cutting tool – I recommend a snap off utility blade.
Contact cement – Barge and Woodweld are good brands available at most hardware or convenience stores. I use Duall #88. Remember contact cement and rubber cement are different things.
Non stretch fabric, nylon webbing, upholstery foam – used to hinge the jaw and give a place for your hand
Other finishing materials - (optional depending on how you want to finish it) - Plastidip, flex bond, Gap filla (TNT Cosplay Supply), Creature Cast Rubber, Plaid FX acrylic paint.
